The Japan Art Fair (JAF) celebrates the enduring legacy of Japanese culture, bringing together extraordinary artifacts that reflect over a millennium of artistry and tradition. From samurai weapons and armor to timeless antiques, JAF offers a captivating exploration of Japan’s rich and storied history.
For the first time ever, an official team of Japanese experts traveled to Utrecht, the Netherlands, to conduct a Shinsa (formal appraisal and certification of Japanese armor) during the Japan Art Fair.
Hosted by the Japanese Armor Society (JAS), this unique event gave collectors a rare opportunity to have their armor pieces examined and authenticated by leading authorities without the need to ship them to Japan.
The event attracted a large number of participants, with many remarkable and exceptional pieces of Japanese armor submitted for appraisal. The high level of craftsmanship, historical significance, and authenticity represented in the entries made the Shinsa a memorable success and an important milestone for the European collecting community.
