Official Shinsa

The first Official Shinsa Outside of Japan!

Mark your calendars for June 14th. For the first time in history, an official team of experts from Japan will travel to the Netherlands, Utrecht to conduct a Shinsa (formal appraisal and certification) for Japanese armor, on the occasion of the Japan Art Fair.

This landmark event is hosted by the Japanese Armor Society (JAS), the Western branch of the prestigious Nihon Katchū Bugu Kenkyū Hozon Kai (NKBKHK).

What is a Shinsa?

A Shinsa is a formal examination by top-tier Japanese experts. During this session, authentic armor-related items are meticulously evaluated for their historical significance, craftsmanship, and authenticity.

Items eligible for appraisal include:

  • Kabuto (Helmets)
  • Dō (Cuirasses/Armor)
  • Menpō (Face masks)
  • Other related armor components.

Why is this event significant?

Typically, these rare and fragile artifacts must be shipped to Japan for official certification. This event brings the expertise to you, offering a unique opportunity to have your collection authenticated by the highest authorities in the field without the risks of international shipping.
