We are proud to introduce Nihonto Australia and Samurai Gallery Australia, founded by lifelong collector and martial artist John Grasso. With a passion for Japanese swords rooted in over three decades of study and practice, John has become a respected figure in the Australian and international Nihonto community. His journey began through martial arts, where the philosophy of bushidō sparked a fascination that has grown into a professional and deeply personal mission: to preserve, study, and share the legacy of the samurai sword.

Established as one of Australia’s first dedicated platforms for Japanese swords, Nihonto Australia continues to connect collectors with authentic and historically significant artifacts sourced directly from Japan. In 2014, this vision expanded with the opening of Samurai Gallery Australia in Cairns, a unique space dedicated to Japanese arms, armor, and cultural objects. Open by appointment, the gallery welcomes private groups, schools, universities, and martial arts communities for immersive, educational experiences.

As a member of the NBTHK and multiple international sword preservation societies, John is committed to the traditional restoration and conservation of Japanese swords—many of which were brought to Australia after WWII and revived under his care. With frequent travel to Japan, close ties to trusted mentors, and a discerning eye, he continues to hand-select exceptional pieces for collectors and institutions worldwide.

Whether you are seeking expert advice, looking to acquire a sword, or wish to restore and preserve a historical blade, Nihonto Australia stands as a trusted guide. We invite you to explore the collection, deepen your appreciation, and join a growing community committed to honoring the spirit and artistry of Japan’s most iconic cultural treasure.
